Stay focused on your brand and on what you want to achieve
Many individuals have a hard time staying focused on their goals. This is especially true for anything business related, because these goals can be some of the scariest to pursue. Instead, people tend to focus on what they haven’t achieved: the fact they haven’t yet found their dream job or haven’t attracted their desired customers. Not only are these people losing focus of what they really want, they’re concentrating on negative points that will make going after their goals even more challenging.
To be successful in business, you must stay focused on your archetype, your talents and skills, and what you are able to offer other people: your brand. Never settle for a job. Instead, look for opportunities that match your abilities and reflect your values, and be clear about what you want. Knowing your archetype can help you to focus and see opportunities more easily. Are you constantly on the lookout for a new product, service or experience? Then you’re likely The Explorer. Stay focused on this, and look for work that will allow you to make new discoveries—whether through technological innovations or scientific experiments.
Once you understand your brand and ideals, you can keep your focus on these and on your ultimate goal of success in business by constantly striving to improve. Remember—skills can be built upon the talents you innately possess, but developing those skills requires work. Look carefully at your work. Is there room for improvement? Ask yourself how you can get better. Are you a great public speaker, but lack writing skills? Take a writing workshop or an online course to improve these skills. This will help you reach a broader audience and allow you to communicate more effectively. You’ll appear more professional and may soon be in demand, not only for the speaking engagements you’re used to acquiring, but perhaps also to write books or articles.
If you really are committed to doing what you love for a living, keep learning—take classes, read books, watch tutorials. Then practice so you can continue to improve. While no one expects perfection, you should constantly strive for excellence. Your goal shouldn’t simply be to start a business or a new job. You want to achieve and sustain success in your industry.
Being focused on your brand and your ultimate business goals means you are willing to keep learning, improving and innovating your product, services or skills. By doing so, you will be able to offer top-quality, distinctive services that are consistent with your values and that will prove to be invaluable to your customers or employer.
